The briar used for these pipes was of the Plateau variety - prized for its beauty and cool smoking characteristics. We graded each pipe according to our exacting standard resulting in a distinct and detectable difference in quality between the 500, 600 and 700 series. Naturally, few pipes were deemed worthy of the 700 designation.
500 series pipes generally featured half or full rustication, while the 700 series were made from near- flawless briar with no fills or rustication.
The 500, 600 or 700 series designation was marked on the bowl by means of a three digit stamp - the first number indicating its grade (5,6 or 7) and the following three its shape number. This follows in the tradition of Brigham nomenclature although this was the first Brigham series to not feature brass or silver pins as a means of identification.
Silver cuffs emblazoned with the Brigham leaf and acrylic stems (available in black and green marble) rounded out the appearance of the pipes, giving them a distinctive look.
We created this series both with the patented Brigham filter system and in a non-filtered format to offer a choice to pipe smokers of either preference.
