Production stages of the semi-finished pipe

Stages of Pipe Production - briar to semi-finished

For many years, the Sportsman pipe was created in Spring to offer a unique item.

Regular Brigham (filtered) pipes were taken from production prior to the final sanding, staining and finishing processes to create what we called “Semi-finished” or “Sportsman” pipes. They were originally created for the Ontario Sportsman show in Toronto where we used to sell a significant number of pipes. Times have changed, and the show is no longer a viable marketing tool for a pipe company, but the "Sportsman" designation remains.

The exterior finishing processes (or lack thereof) do not in any way  impact the performance of the Sportsman pipe. In saving these steps we reduce the overall cost of producing the pipes and pass the savings along! This allows Brigham pipe smokers to enjoy a higher quality pipe than they might be smoking now for the same price.

The unique look of the semi-finished Sportsman pipes conjures the image of outdoors that the name “Sportsman” suggests. These pipes darken with age and use in a similar fashion to most pipes. They truly are unique - we have customers who swear by the rugged, handsome looks of these pipes.

The Brigham “Sportsman” pipe is ideal for situations where getting a little “knocked-around” is anticipated because you won't need to worry about scratching the finish….there isn't one!

Brigham Sportsman pipes were made available only available in 300, 400 and 500 series. Given changes to our manufacturing process, these pipes have become a collectors item and your local Dealer may indeed still have some set aside for those interested.
